What is a Scene?
A scene is a saved configuration that defines what your stream looks like at any given moment. Each scene specifies a video source (which camera to use) and can include overlays like a picture-in-picture camera, browser source, or image.
Think of scenes like presets. Instead of fumbling with settings mid-stream, you create scenes ahead of time and switch between them with a single tap from the scene popup.
You might have a "Walking" scene using the back phone camera, a "Talking" scene using the front camera, and a "DJI Cinematic" scene using a USB camera. Switch between them live without interrupting your stream.
Creating Your First Scene
Open Scene Settings
Go to Settings → Scenes. You'll see a list of your scenes (a default scene is created automatically).
Tap "Add Scene"
Enter a name for your scene. Something descriptive like "Back Camera Wide" or "DJI Main" works well.
Choose a Video Source
Select the primary camera for this scene:
| Source | Description |
|---|---|
| Phone Camera (Back) | Uses the phone's rear camera. Best for IRL walking streams. |
| Phone Camera (Front) | Uses the phone's selfie camera. Good for talking-to-camera segments. |
| USB Camera (UVC) | Uses a connected USB camera like DJI Pocket 3. Requires USB-C connection. |
Save and Activate
Tap save. Your scene appears in the scene list. To make it active, tap it in the scene popup on the main screen.
Switching Scenes While Streaming
On the main screen, tap the scene button in the quick actions on the right side to open the scene popup. You'll see all your scenes listed. The active scene is highlighted. Tap a different scene to switch instantly.
- Camera switching happens seamlessly - no stream interruption
- If switching to a USB camera scene, the phone camera becomes the overlay (or vice versa)
- UVC scenes show the device name when a USB camera is connected, or "disconnected" if not
USB camera scenes are grayed out in the popup if no UVC device is connected. Plug in your camera first, then switch to the scene.
Scene Configuration Options
Video Source
The primary camera that fills the full stream frame. Only one video source per scene. When you switch scenes, the video source changes immediately.
Camera Swap on UVC Scenes
When a UVC scene is active, the camera swap button doesn't switch between front and back phone cameras. Instead, it sends a pan command to the USB camera. On a DJI Pocket 3, this physically rotates the gimbal 180° between forward-facing and selfie mode.
Audio Routing
When you switch to a USB camera scene, audio is automatically routed to the USB device's microphone (if it has one). When you switch back to a phone camera scene, audio reverts to the phone mic. No manual configuration needed.
Tips
- Name scenes clearly - you'll be switching under pressure while streaming
- Test before going live - make sure each scene looks right in the preview
- Keep it simple - 2-4 scenes is usually enough for a typical IRL stream
- USB cameras need a moment - plug in and wait for the permission dialog before switching to a UVC scene
